The Egyptian Federation for Financing Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (also known as MSMEF or “the Federation”) is co-hosting Cerise+SPTF’s 2026 global meeting in Cairo.
MSMEF is the official regulatory body for the enterprise finance sector in Egypt. Established by law in 2014, MSMEF works to support the sector’s institutional sustainability and expand access to responsible, high-quality financial services through capacity building, technical support, governance enhancement, and client protection.
According to the law, membership in the Federation is mandatory for all entities licensed by the Financial Regulatory Authority. The 550 current members include NGOs, finance companies, and banks, reflecting the Federation’s broad scope and ability to represent various market segments.
Since 2021, the Federation has closely collaborated with the Financial Regulatory Authority and the Central Bank of Egypt, in partnership with Cerise+SPTF, to support the implementation of client protection and responsible finance standards. Once these efforts are fully implemented, they are expected to ensure that more than 90% of microfinance clients in Egypt are served by institutions that place client protection at the core of their operations.
